AUTO-QUIZ: An Automatic ACCESS Statement Generator for QUIZ Query

PowerHouse report writer. QUIZ, provides access to information stored in the database. As a fourth generation language, it offers greater productivity over third generation languages through reduction in programming effort and development time. However, like many query languages, QUIZ requires the users to have a good understanding of the underlying data structures irr order to generate reports out of them. This paper presents a query processing module designed as a front-end interface for QUIZ as a tool to relieve users of the task. Once the required items are identified, the system generates the ACCESS statement after determining the appropriate types of linkages among the files containing the items. It achieves its objective by creating a supporting database which contains the entity-attribute (or file-item in PowerHouse language) relationship and an efficient search algorithm to produce the ACCESS statement for QUIZ.
